Teach 1 Tuesday
Guard Your Vision, Grow Your Craft, Choose Your Circle
The hardest mix you’ll ever dial in isn’t on a console—it’s the blend of belief, boundaries, and daily action that turns talent into a body of work. We pressed pause on plugins to talk directly to the person behind the project: the artist, engineer, producer, or songwriter who knows they have something to say but keeps running into doubt, distractions, and the wrong voices in the room.
I walk through the quiet mechanics of confidence: how gifted creators still self-sabotage, why environment shapes output, and what it means to choose a circle that raises your standards. We get practical about strategic privacy—sharing goals only with people who can hold them—and the simple power of writing your vision like an address in a GPS. You’ll hear how to set timelines that are ambitious yet healthy, so your progress doesn’t cost your well-being, and how small, consistent reps build identity faster than occasional marathon sessions ever could.
From micro wins at the piano to protecting your dream from casual cynics, this conversation treats mindset as a production tool—one that routes your energy where it matters most. If you’ve ever felt over-equipped and under-shipped, you’ll leave with a plan: guard your focus, define your destination, act in bite-size daily steps, and let evidence rebuild your trust in yourself. Subscribe, share this with a creative friend who needs a lift, and drop a comment on Buzz Sprout telling us the one goal you’re writing down today. Your next release starts with the belief that you can finish—let’s prove it together.

The Toni King Experience
Hello and welcome back everyone to a brand new episode of Teach One Tuesday podcast. We're going to get into a great subject today that I'm very excited about. But before we do that, y'all know what it is. Let's get into it. Welcome back, everyone. Welcome back. I'm very excited about what we're going to be getting into today. And so uh let's buckle up and get into it. Welcome back to another episode of Teach One Tuesday podcast where we empower music creators with the tools and techniques to elevate their sound. I'm your host, Tony King, and today we're going to be getting into a great subject today about self-confidence and mindset. And I just want to take some time away from the technical side of things of production and music, and I want to talk to the person. You know, I can give you all these amazing tools and techniques and things, you know, for weeks on end. But it's important that you understand that there is a certain mindset that goes along with uh this achieving rather what you want to achieve. There's a certain mindset and there's a certain frame of mind. And I just want to take time to steer you in that direction of self-confidence and just a knowing that you're going to achieve the thing that you set out to do. Because, you know, I have seen people that are very talented, very gifted, you know, uh in anything. No, no matter what it is, um it can be music, it can be sports, it can be politics, academics, whatever it is, sometimes the person is very talented and gifted. He or she is very talented and gifted, but they may not see it. And because of that, they may go into what's called a self-sabotage type of thing. Um, where they sabotage, they sabotage any and everything that comes their way because they just don't believe uh that they have it or that they are, you know, they are the one to um that can achieve something amazing that they've read about, seen, heard about, whatever. Um, and so I want to speak to you, the person, and I want you to can I want you to start if you haven't already, putting yourself in the mindset of of being confident, of knowing that you can achieve greatness, that you are extremely creative, and that you have what it takes to be that artist, to be the engineer, to to be the songwriter, to be the arranger, to be the vocal arranger. You, whatever it is that you're going for, whatever uh avenue that you're taking under the umbrella of music, um, I want you to know that you have what it takes to uh take on this task. And, you know, it's it's a it's a daily thing and it is a walk. You know, it is uh something that you have to work on and work at. It's not something that just falls on you. You know, some people have, you know, some people are just confident from the jump for whatever reason. Maybe they come from that. You know, the home life, you know, parents, they have a very big influence on their children, at least in the beginning. Um, so you know, some people may just have it because of the environment they came up in. And then there are others who need to work on their confidence and uh work on knowing, you know, that they have the it factor, you know. And uh one of the ways you can do that is picking your company, your friends, your surroundings, uh being around people who think uh amazing thoughts, uh hopefully about themselves, and when it comes to what you are trying to, not trying to, what you are accomplishing, accomplishing day by day. It's it's very hard to accomplish things in the room with a bunch of negative people. And so that's you know, one of the things I want you to stop and look at. Who am I hanging around? Who am I talking to? You know, what's my company, you know, um, and are they adding to me? Am I adding to them? And if they are not adding to your life, then I would suggest you make some decision make some decisions about, you know, continuing that relationship, no matter what it is, whether it's platonic, whether it's romantic, whatever it may be, um, or if it's family, you know, then you have some distance, you know, because you are on the journey, on the road to accomplishing something amazing. And we just cannot afford to hang around people who um have just have not taken the time to do the work for themselves to accomplish something great. And usually those are the people who can be very negative when it comes to um, you know, other people. They can't see the vision. And and and so that takes me to about point number two is you know, be very be very careful about uh who you are sharing your information with, your dreams, your goals. Um, these days I keep things close to the chest. I really don't share uh a lot with uh people depending on who it is. If people ask me, you know, what I'm doing or what I'm what I'm up to. I usually give very vague answers depending on who it is, because everybody can't handle your vision, everybody can't handle your dream, everybody can't handle your trajectory, you know, and so some people will try to stomp all over your dream. And so I would suggest that you are very careful about who you are sharing your goals with, and you're sure and so, you know, uh work on surrounding yourself with people who are just accomplished and who are on their way to accomplishing things. It doesn't have to be in the same field, it's just an energy, it's a it's a vibe that accomplished people have, that you know, you just want to be around it because you know they're there and this it's a gravity towards greatness, and that's what you want in your life. You want that pull, you want that gravity, you want that thing that that helps you to push each and every day. Even if that day you are resting, say certain days that you're not doing much, and and I'll get to that in a minute, but and that's important as well. But even in your resting, even if it's just you working on your thoughts, you know what I mean? And um, and that's that's very important. So number one, it starts with you, what you think, your thoughts, what you're saying about yourself, what you feel about yourself. Number two, your company about who you're surrounding yourself with. Um, number three, be careful about who you're sharing your dreams with. Um, because uh everybody's not gonna be excited about what you're doing. That's just a that is just the honest to God truth. And that is just if I can, if you can walk away from this podcast episode with anything, that will be it. Everybody's not gonna be uh everybody's not gonna be excited about what you're doing. And so don't be surprised if friends, family members, whoever, people who were once, you know, in your corner because y'all were neck and neck. You weren't, you weren't, you haven't gotten to where you want to be at, and they haven't gotten to where they want to be at. And let's just say in this hypothetical situation, they're not really working on what they want to do. They're doing a lot of talking, but they're not really working on what they want to accomplish. So, you know, they have, you know, so when they sometimes what happens is that when they see you moving up, they become negative. And so I just want to help you with that. Number, I don't know, it's four. Um, is you know, write down write down the things that you want to accomplish. There, there's a scripture in the Bible that says write division and make it plain. Uh, you have to know where you're going. When you get in the car and you don't know where you're going, we have something called a GPS. And what you do is that the GPS usually can pick up where you are at the time, and then you put in the address of where you want to end up. And so what I want you to understand is that when you write your vision down, when you write down, I'm not saying write down dates now, that that's another conversation. Um uh uh, but yeah, that's another conversation. I'll get to that. But you should write down what you want to accomplish. And yes, you can put like have a date because that helps you to have a stop date. You know what I mean? So um you can have, you know, say, say this is 2025, this is November 2025, today is the 18th. And say you want to have done a certain amount of workouts by January 1st, right? January 1st. You can write that down. Okay, I want to have done or or to have lost a certain amount of weight uh by this realistically, though. Realistically, you're right. So if you've if you for instance, if you if you uh have taken on a lot of weight, you know, let's, I don't know, say you say you're 250, whatever, and and you talking about you want to get down to 180 by January. Now, I'm not saying it's not possible. I'm just simply saying that certain things take time and you want to do things in a healthy way, right? I don't know how I got on this because I I work out, I do work out and um maintain my body. So it's it's important that you get there in a healthy way, not starving yourself, not not through negativity, none of that. So I'm saying to you in the same way, you know, have uh uh goals that you want to, or have, or not go, not goals necessarily, but have uh yeah, something that you want to accomplish by a certain time, just an overall uh uh a vision of what you want to accomplish, and then you know, have a date. Now I'll give you I'll give you this one for free. I am working on a book right now that I want to put, that I'm going to put out in 2026. Going to put out, I don't necessarily have a date yet, so I'm gonna work on that. I don't have a date yet of when I'm gonna put this book out, but I am in the midst of writing it right now, and I want to finish it between now and let's just say uh in January. Like let's say by the end of January, I want to have that book finished, then I'm going to finding my publisher and so forth and so on. So that's my goal, overall goal. I want to finish this book, I have a date, you know what I mean? So I just and if the date, listen, and if the date changes, the date changes. Don't don't worry about that. Um, but you have something down um that you want, and that's very, very important. And and and go over these things. Some people say on a daily basis, um, I'm a little bit more loose with that, you know what I mean? I would say several times in a week. You can do it every day if you like, but you know, uh go over that list and look at what you want to accomplish on a regular basis. I'll just put it that way on a regular basis. And these are just some of the things that I think is extremely important when you are on your journey to uh accomplishing great things in this life that God has given us. And so um it's very important. Your company, so so back up. So your mindset, what you feel about yourself, uh uh, your company, you know, your friends, um, you know, be careful about where, you know, who you're sharing your dreams with. Write the vision, make it plain, you know. And I'll say the last one uh before I end this podcast episode is to um work daily, work, you know, even if it's something very small. Let me say this before before we end this. Do not feel that when you when you it's because I say every day, right? So don't feel that just because you're working on something every day that you have to spend hours every single day. That's not what that means. So I'm a pianist for those of the those of you that don't know. I'm a pianist. And there are times where yes, I can get 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and I can even get an hour in. And then there are some days where I get 15 minutes. But what matters is that I sat down to practice. I did something, right? It wasn't that I spent hours doing it, I did something today that moved the needle. And that's what I had to learn. I had to learn that. I had to learn that I don't have to try to accomplish something, accomplish uh everything in one day. I did something today that's moving me forward to where I want to be. And so that's what I wanted to share with you, these tools um that will continue to help you and push you. Because again, I can give you, and other people can give you all the tools in the world, I can tell you about all the plugins, the dolls, I can tell you about you know, production and songwriting, I can tell I can tell you about all this great stuff. But if you don't believe it, if you don't believe that you can accomplish it or that if you're not that great at it right now, that you can be great at this thing, then we're just wasting time. And so I want to help you to internally transform so that you can go forth uh with the tools on my previous episodes that I have shared with you, with these tools, and so that you can go and grab these tools and you can run with them and that you can uh continue to get better and grow and put your music out and get better as a vocalist, engineer, uh producer, whatever it is that you're doing, you can get better and better and better. And that's what I want. And I and I even want to hear from you guys. So please do me a favor if you're listening to it on Buzz Sprout or wherever you're listening to it, um, come on Buzz Sprout.
