Send us a text

Ready to uncover the mystery behind a successful album launch? Join me on this journey as I bare all about the upcoming release of Kingdom Radio Volume 1. I'll be revealing the secret sauce that goes into the making of my music, right from the first spark of inspiration caught in a voice memo, to the fine art of rhythm and phrasing. This episode is brimming with priceless tips for any budding artist. Particularly noteworthy is my advice on maintaining symmetry in lyrics -- ensuring the phrasing in each line is within two syllables of the one before it. Let's learn how to let creativity flow naturally, capturing ideas on the fly and nurturing them into fruition.

Going further than just the music, I'll also let you peek behind the curtain of my personal platforms, featuring my podcast, YouTube channel, and class. You'll get a feel of the magic being spun at Rare Keys Production, my very own venture. In this candid exchange, I also touch upon the importance of mindset in the creative process. When the going gets tough, know how to shift gears and transform a bad day into a springboard for inspiration. So, come, immerse yourself in this creative revelation, and empower your own artistic journey. Don't just listen, but experience the process and be inspired.

Speaker 1:

Alright, so let's jump into this man. I want to reveal Again actually I might have said it in another episode I am starting a new project. I have started a new project. I've been working on it for some time now. My new record actually started out as an EP, but my new record is coming out next year, february 1st. I'm announcing it here, february 1st. It was going to be this year, but I decided to push it back so I can really get some things done that I want to get down on this record. February 1st 2024, the album will be dropping.

Speaker 1:

So I thought you know I'm in this process. I'm in this flow, so let me come on here and share some things and shed some light on what I'm doing and what my process is, and certain things may not apply to you. If you're not able to do these things, but these are the first things I'm going to mention will be beneficial, I think, for everyone. So let's jump in here. Obviously, I'm writing music. First of all, the record is called Kingdom Radio. Let me tell you that the record is called Kingdom Radio, volume one. Volume one because obviously there's going to be a volume two, kingdom Radio.

Speaker 1:

And so my process, you know, as far as writing the music, because I'm doing a lot. I'm writing the music, I'm recording it and arranging it and producing it, the whole thing. But what I'm doing up front is when I get an idea, when I get an idea, I take up my phone and In my voice, memos, I record, you know everything. Whether I'm recording a melody, if it's a melody for the chorus, I recorded. If it's a melody for the verse, I record it. If it's, you know, just a couple of lyrics, I record that. It doesn't matter that it's a couple of things, it's just getting me started. If it's rhythms, whatever I can get down, I'm going to record on my phone so I can go back to it and flush it out later.

Speaker 1:

And this is and this is super important I want to say. I want to stop here for a second and just say that we need to remember that the creative process is more of us receiving versus thinking that we're creating it, we're we're. You know, this music is a source, you know, and so For me, I look at my, my, my part is really as just receiving it and then, you know, flushing it out and getting it out to the people, I, really we say we write it, but really I receive it and then you know, you know, just you know, that's how it happens. So for those that are in the creative space, let it come to you, don't force it, but when it does be ready, take your phone, your handy dandy phone, and and get down everything you need to get down. And that takes me to my next part Record, you know, record that day. And then the next day is to say, if you don't want to do it all in one day, next day come back and now let's just start flushing this thing out. Okay, and this is what I do. I, if I'm working on the verse today, I Go and I and I write my lyrics.

Speaker 1:

You know, paying attention to rhythm, paying attention to phrasing. Make sure my one of my lines don't have five, five, what do you call it? You know, as far as I'm phrasing it, as far as how it laid out, it's not five and then it's not ten. So, for example, let's just say this is simple line I love you, girl, or something like that. And then my next line is I want to take you out to the mall and give you everything I. You know it doesn't match. You need to have, like those phrases need to be close in number Just a song writing tip it needs to be close in number, you can have plus one. So that's to say your first line has you know the phrasing maybe has like first, it has like seven syllables, something like that. You know your next one can be it can be eight or nine, it's not too. It can be give or take two, you know two out, but not. But it can't be like five or seven, it's case seven. And then like the next line is like 11, you know it's, it's not gonna match, that's gonna sound right, all right.

Speaker 1:

Now, people who've done different things you know maybe this is one of the things that I have learned, you know, when I took my song writing class just to sharpen my skills, so one of the things I pay attention to, my phrasing. So I flushed this stuff out. Now Let me tell you this important part. When I flushed my music out, let's just say I write my, my, my first verse. I recorded again. I record the exact. I recorded again because you know, as the music is flowing in you You're gonna forget things. So when you finish that first part, that first verse, record the first verse, record it again.

Speaker 1:

All right, and you can also create within the voice memos. Now I'm an iPhone person and I know how it works in other phones, but I phone you could actually group your memos together. So this is so. If my song is called greater, you know I can put. If I have five memos, I can put greater in one group so I can, so can all be together. So I recorded, you know again. So I have it there. Now I go on to verse two. Same exact thing.

Speaker 1:

I write my verse to pay attention to my phrasing, pay attention to oh, I also praise and take patience to the notes that I'm singing. And see, I have a little bit of a Advantage because I have musical training. Okay, so, so I want to put that out there. I have musical training, so this process is a little easier for me. But I don't think you need to have musical training to just get your stuff down. You're right, just sing your stuff, because whenever you get with a producer and if they're in their gifted and talented enough to have the skills, they're gonna be able to take what you have and flush it out. So no big deal, you don't need to have musical training for that, just just record your stuff. So pay attention to the phrasing, pay attention to the melody. You know what notes you're singing.

Speaker 1:

Do you want to do you want your melody to be static, which means that you don't have a lot of leaps, and you have a lot of leaps, like you like going. You're not seeing a lot of, you know Going from thirds to fifths to six, like it's not big leaps, but you're main, you're mainly pain of singing like seconds or thirds or something like that. It's staying around. It's not a static melody. Or do you want your melody to have some you know Leaps? Or you want to have a combination? You have to. These are things that you Need to think about and make your music interesting, but I would encourage you to uh, I would encourage you to record both of those things.

Speaker 1:

And I'm going to stop here because I want I want it to be too long. I'm going to do another one, um, and I named this new projects. I'll have a new projects too, but I'm going to stop here and, just you know, give you those two nuggets for my creatives. Make sure you're putting down everything, uh, so you're not forgetting. You had to sit and think what was that melody, what was that lyric? Put everything down, record it, write it now so you can be prepared to continue to flush out your music and go on to the next part of your process.

Speaker 1:
