Speaker 1:

I made a mistake in the beginning the toolkit from just a mastery. It is my class. I don't know if I said that I might have said my business, but it's my class for For musicians, techniques and things you can learn and take your musicianship to the next level. You can find it on this link. You can also find it on you to me. Just look up the toolkit for musicianship mastery and the class will be there.

Speaker 1:

All right, so let's jump in here, family, jump into. Just a quick message About the power of imitating the greats. And I'm talking about producers, I'm talking about Um mixing and mastering engineers, I'm talking about vocalists, I'm talking about instrumentalists, even even talking about dancers, actors. All right, let's get into the habit of looking at I'm not saying we're not, but listen let's get into the habit of looking at what the greats have done and what they're still doing, even at the height of their Fame and at and at the height or or they're in their prime of the career or their ability. It's important to do this because what we have to understand at, the greats Know. They know what they did to get to where they are and they know what they're doing to stay where they are. You see what I'm saying and it's super important to to Understand this. I'll give you an example.

Speaker 1:

Didn't say on Washington, still had he has an acting coach. Now I don't know who's coaching that brother? But he's. He has an acting coach right now. He has one now. When I first heard this, I didn't understand. I was like, wait a minute, this is Denzel was talking about. Denzel has an acting coach. What are you doing there? But he understands that you need to continue to grow to understand, to so that you can stay where you are, to even go to higher positions.

Speaker 1:

Another one Bradford Marcellus saxophonist. At least at that time that I learned this, he had someone that was A teacher that was still working with him on his saxophone playing. Now, as great as Bradford is. Of course, he's part of the Marcellus family for those of you that don't know, went and his dad and others. He's a great saxophone is amazing. You know me, and this guy has a coach. He has a teacher that's still helping him to go to new levels. And you would think these people like, man, I'm already there, I'm going to do, but no, these people have teachers and coaches and People in place to help them to be the best, to be their best, best selves. And so I want to encourage you to First of all, let's stop paying so much attention to the glitz and glamour and shine of the career and Start paying attention to what they are doing and how they and and and do some research on how they got there and how they are maintaining the success that they have Acquired. It's so important.

Speaker 1:

What techniques for my vocalist? What techniques? How often should I practice my vocals? How should I break it up? How you know, today should I work on falsetto? Should, tomorrow, should I work on chest voice? Should I, should I work on my vibrato? Should I work on my tone? These are different areas of that. You can get vocalist in practice, and I know because I'm a vocalist myself. That's the reason why I know For my instrumentals, which I'm also instrumentalism and pianist, you know, today Should I just work on my scales and work on my arpeggios and and for my pianist specifically, should I work on my thumb.

Speaker 1:

Make sure my passing my thumb under to where my scales sound smooth. I'm not and I play them smoothly for my jazz musicians. What should I be working on today? Should I just work on the head of a tune? You know not, not trying to blow over yet Just ahead of a tune, just work on that, maybe did the head. And in a bass line, or for my, for my saxophonist, or for my trombonist, for my, for my brass, or what wins should I work on just to head today? Should I work on my breathing? You know?

Speaker 1:

Let's go research what it is that they were doing, that the, the people that have risen to these places, are not there on Accident, and I think TV can make people think that these things happen on accident. They do not happen on accident. It is on purpose that they are there, no matter what the field is, and it even even a sports. It's not a park, it's about sports, it's about music, but, but still sports, what it is. How is it? Or how Many workouts are they doing? What's happening to get out? How many, how many sessions do they do? Right, it's, it's so important. I would watch, because I'm just a sports fan and I am a LeBron James fan. I would watch his workouts, I would watch what he would do and watch how he will break up his game. We're in just work on different things and no wonder when he gets on the court, it looks so, it looks so effortless, it looks like he's not trying at all Because all the work was done behind closed doors that, unless he recorded it, there's just an.

Speaker 1:

Obviously he did because I was able to see it, and so I, I need us, those that are up and coming, and even those who are professional, you know, maintain a mindset and heart of humility and Continue to research and learn. And I'm even saying this to myself Continue to research and learn and grow. You know, I've been, I've been playing keys for about 20 something years now, but I'm still so hungry. I'm still so hungry to learn so much more, to be so much better. It just never ends, you know, and I think that should be the fun part it just it never ends. It's always something new To learn.

Speaker 1:

And so I'm going to go back to the main thing I'm saying, which is let's research the greats. There's research the habits of these people outside of the craft, as far as you know eating and working out, mindset, people they're hanging out with, right, all these things Are a factor and they play a part in allowing that person to be great, no matter what the field is. And I'm going to say this to you that the mindset should be at the top of the list as far as what you are saying to yourself, what you allowing people to not allow. People say to you but what are you? What are you Taking to heart when people say things to you, whether good or bad? What is it that you're taking home with you when people say negative things to you? You know that's you at the top of the list. Mindset, your body. You know All these things are going to factor into longevity. All right, I didn't want this one to be too long, so I'm going to stop there, but let's go and research the greats family. Let's find out what they're doing, let's find out what's happening and let's become great ourselves.
